The first bricks are going down at Hazelwood Drive in Sunbury-on-Thames, marking an exciting milestone for our development of 67 new affordable homes with Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing (MTVH).
Reaching Golden Brick is a great opportunity to look back at where the journey began – from identifying the potential of the site to seeing that vision now taking shape.
Chartway Land Manager Sam Mensah was involved from the early stages, helping to identify the site and bring forward the opportunity.
Sam said: “I remember first seeing the site and immediately recognising what it could become. It takes a huge amount of vision, determination and hard work to bring a development to the point where construction can begin, so returning now and seeing the first bricks being laid, and that vision becoming reality, is an incredibly satisfying moment.”
Since work began in late May, Site Manager Chris Barnes and the team have been making strong progress on site.
Chris said: “The project at Hazelwood is progressing well, and we have made excellent progress on site since starting in late May this year, thanks to the hard work of all our contractors involved.
“Golden Brick is a great milestone and an opportunity to look back at how much work has been completed up to now.
“To date, we have successfully installed 10 timber frames and started first lift brickwork to Block B’s apartment block. We have also installed the majority of the main drainage, services and main roads to the site.
“We plan to keep up the good momentum, and I am particularly looking forward to starting our internal fit-out in the first houses in early October.”
Hazelwood Drive is Chartway’s first development with MTVH and will provide a mix of one, two, three and four-bedroom homes, all for Affordable Rent.
The first homes are expected to be completed in 2027.
From spotting the opportunity to seeing the first bricks laid, Golden Brick is an important milestone for Hazelwood Drive – and a great moment for everyone involved in bringing the development to life.
