We were delighted to welcome the local MP for Folkestone & Hythe, Tony Vaughan KC, to the Dawsons Green development to officially open the brand-new show home and showcase the progress being made on this much-needed affordable housing scheme, delivered in partnership with Orbit.

Built on the site of a former brickworks, Dawsons Green is transforming a previously derelict brownfield site into a thriving new community, providing 77 high-quality affordable homes for local people. Orbit will provide 35 homes for social rent and 42 homes for Shared Ownership, while the development will also include two public open spaces, including a new play area.

During the visit, we highlighted how collaborative partnerships between developers and housing providers can unlock brownfield land to help meet local housing needs while creating sustainable, energy-efficient homes. Tony was also shown how construction is progressing and heard about Orbit Homes’ tenure-blind approach to the development, ensuring every home benefits from the same high standards of design, safety and customer service, regardless of tenure.

Chartway and Orbit colleagues also shared how the homes have been designed to minimise their environmental impact and support customers with energy efficiency. Each property has been designed with the future in mind, incorporating features such as solar panels and electric vehicle charging points to help reduce environmental impact and running costs for residents.

As part of the visit, Tony officially opened the new three-bedroom show home at Dawsons Green by cutting the ribbon.

Speaking during the visit, Tony Vaughan KC, MP for Folkestone and Hythe, said:

“It was great to see first-hand how Orbit is working in partnership with Chartway to provide much-needed new affordable homes for the local area and it was interesting to hear more about the development’s sustainability features. I’m excited to see the site continue to progress.”

Brian Nearney, Chief Development Officer at Orbit, commented:

“We’re delighted to welcome Tony to Dawsons Green to show him how the development is progressing and mark the opening of our new show home here. It was great to share more about how we’re working alongside Chartway to bring quality new affordable homes for social rent and Shared Ownership that support the local housing need in the area.”

Graham Chivers, CEO at Chartway, added:

“We were excited to share our progress alongside Orbit at Dawsons Green with Tony on this tour of the site. Dawsons Green not only supports our commitment to creating sustainable new communities but reinforces our passion for working together with organisations like Orbit to deliver much-needed new affordable homes locally.”

We’re proud to be working alongside Orbit to deliver homes that will make a lasting difference to the local community, and we look forward to seeing Dawsons Green welcome its first residents.
